Forgot to mention line test. So many times I have been asked why I use such small line, meaning line test I assume. In fact I don’t.
As in line type, the pound test is also important. Don’t spool up with 20# mono to fish for perch or other panfish when 4 or 6 will do. This also has to do with conditions, as mentioned. Wlhen fishing rough structure a heavier line may be needed than if you are fishing a relatively clean bottom. What I’m trying to say is get used to using the lightest line for the conditions you are fishing.

I agree - use the lightest line possible and enjoy the fight more.
