Bass Fishing At Night

Wednesday July 16, 2008
It is hot and miserable during the day in Georgia right now so I beat the heat and catch bass by fishing at night. Some people don't like night fishing but I really enjoy it. Give these tactics that work for me a try and see how you do. Let me know how you do in the comment section below, and add your tips on night fishing there, too.

I’ve been fishing the full moon for over 15 years. In my experience the 3 days prior to the full moon through 3 days after have been the most productive. The best bait for my home lake is a large deep diving crank bait fished slow is a pretty good bet. Shaking a 4″ hand poured butler worm in a red devil color with glass beads has proved to be deadly as well. A wacky rigged 6″ senko is also a good bait. Work them all slow. If these three baits don’t work then it is time to reach for the dynamite. Good luck and remember to practice catch and release.

How clear is the water where you fish? I seem to have better luck in clear water at night, especially with crankbaits and spinnerbaits, on moonlight nights. In stained water it does not seem to make as much difference.

The water clarity on my home lake is not real clear or stained either this time of year. I would call it semi clear.
