Fishing And Lightning

Monday July 7, 2008
Lightning is a problem when fishing during the summer. I have had far too many trips where I had to seek shelter from lightning but it is better to be safe than sorry. Don't stay out fishing when lightning threatens during a fishing trip.

(1) Paul Bruessow says:

Lightning is very common in Florida. Although I’ve never been struck, on several different occasions with storms nearby my line would slowly settle in the air after a cast. I believe this was caused by the static charges in the air. I have also experienced my rod tip “clicking” and “glowing” as well as my reel “clicking”. When any of these things happened, I stuffed the rods into the rod locker and headed to the ramp.

I don’t think I would have taken time to put them in the rod locker!
