Bass VS Bluegill - Which Pulls Harder

Friday May 2, 2008
All my life I have heard something along the lines "If a bluegill got to five pounds you wouldn't be able to land them" and "a five pound bluegill would outfight a five pound bass." Is this true?

Yea, they are hefty fighters. the biggest Bluegill that I ever caught was a 5.5lbs. it took me like 15 min. to get it in! Physically they’re a bluegill, but mentally and at heart, they’re a full fledged Bass!

Wow - a 5.5 pound bluegill is a new world record by almost a pound - hope you had it officially weighed. You need to send it to IGFA.

Bluegill cover more surface area in the water than bass…imagine using a ruler to fan yourself on a hot day then imagine using a magazine. The bluegill is the magazine and the bass is the ruler.
