Fish Egg Development

Tuesday April 29, 2008
These spotted bass eggs were well develoed in January This article won 3rd place in the Georgia Outdoor Writers Association Excellence in Craft competition in the Electronic Media category for 2007. Were you aware fish eggs develop like this?

Have you ever caught a fish in the late fall or winter and been surprised that it was full of eggs? Since fish are cold blooded they must develop their eggs when water temperatures are suitable, then keep them at a ready stage of development so they can ripen quickly when the water temperature and amount of daylight is right for spawning.
