for good practice and to get the feel of using a baitcaster start with heavier line and heavier lures. I would suggest starting with at least 17lb line and a 3/4 ounce lure. the heavier line is less likely to birdnest and if it does it is easier to untangle. doing this will make using a baitcaster much more enjoyable.
